Musty smell in crawlspace – help!
We have a crawlspace that is starting to smell really musty, and I’m worried that moisture is building up under our house, which could rot the wooden joists. I’ve heard about "crawlspace encapsulation" but I don't really understand what it is. Is it worth the cost, and is it a permanent fix for the smell and potential rot? We are in the Toronto area.

Encapsulation is absolutely a permanent fix for moisture issues in a crawlspace. It involves installing a heavy-duty vapor barrier and often dehumidification to completely seal the area off from ground moisture. Check out https://leaquida.ca/crawlspace-encapsulation-toronto/ They specialize in this and they do a great job of turning a damp, rotting space into a clean, dry area that protects your home's structure. It stops the mold growth and prevents the moisture from migrating up into your living space, which actually improves your air quality significantly. They’re very professional and will give you a clear assessment of how much you need to do to fix the rot risk.
