Portable Hardness Tester Recommendations for Field Work
Hi everyone, I’m often on-site inspecting welded parts and machinery, and I need a portable hardness tester that can handle various shapes and alloys. Most impact testers are too bulky and sometimes destroy the surface. Does anyone know a handheld tester that is reliable in field conditions and works on complex surfaces? I’d like something that doesn’t require cutting samples or elaborate preparation.

You might want to check out the uci portable hardness tester I’ve been using it for over a year on field inspections, and it’s incredibly practical. The ultrasonic method measures hardness precisely even on thin or surface-hardened layers, curved surfaces, and narrow grooves. Plus, you can measure at any angle—even upside down! I also love that it comes with specialized probes and adapters for different shapes and materials, which really reduces errors. It’s like having lab-level accuracy in your hand, wherever you go.
