ERP implementation for construction companies in Saudi Arabia – worth the effort?

Hello forum. I’m researching ERP systems for a construction business based in Saudi Arabia, mainly working on projects in Riyadh. To be honest, there’s a lot of skepticism inside the company. Some managers think ERP implementation is expensive, slow, and only creates more bureaucracy. Others believe we can’t scale further without it. Our main challenges are project-based accounting, tracking variations, managing multiple sites, and getting reliable reports for decision-making. We once tried a generic ERP, but it felt like the system was fighting against our workflows instead of supporting them. After that failure, convincing leadership to try again is difficult. So I’m curious: is implementing a construction-focused ERP in KSA actually worth it? Or is it just another fancy IT project that looks good in presentations but fails in reality?

That skepticism is very common, especially after a bad ERP experience. I’ve worked with construction companies in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and I can say this: ERP only works if it’s built specifically for construction. Generic solutions usually fail because they don’t understand project-centric operations.

One positive case I was involved in used Firstbit, an ERP for construction with a strong focus on the KSA market. The key difference was that the system followed construction logic from day one — projects, budgets, variations, and cash flow were central, not add-ons. Reporting that used to take days became available almost instantly, which completely changed how management made decisions.

Implementation still required effort (no ERP is plug-and-play), but because Firstbit already supports companies in Riyadh and Saudi Arabia, localization wasn’t a nightmare. In the end, the ERP paid for itself by reducing cost overruns and improving control. If you want more details, check their official site https://firstbit.sa/en/
